Clingan supplies 300 & 400 Series Stainless in all
tempers from annealed to full hard. Although we specialize in tight
tolerance light gauge applications, we can slit-edge-oscillate wind and
precision cut to length stainless steel in thicknesses through 3/16. We
have the ability to roll or skive round or square edges. Grades we regularly
stock include:
Austenitic Grades
- 301, 302, 304 All Tempers (DQ Annealed, ¼ Hard, ½ Hard, ¾ Hard & Full
Hard)
- 316 & 321 Annealed
- 17-7 Condition A & C
- Austenitic stainless steel strips and straps have austenite as their
primary phase. These are alloys contain chromium and nickel with a
composition of iron, chromium, and nickel. Austenitic stainless steel strap
is not hardenable by heat treatment. The most familiar stainless steel strap
& strip is probably Type 304, sometimes called T304 or simply 304. Type 304
surgical stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel strip and strap
contains chromium and nickel.
Martensitic Grades
- 410 and 420
- Martensite is a very hard form (crystalline structure) of stainless
steel. When viewed in cross-section, the lenticular (lens-shaped) crystal
grains appear acicular (needle-shaped). Martensitic stainless steels are not
as corrosion-resistant but are extremely strong and tough, as well as highly
machinable, and can be hardened by heat treatment. Martensitic stainless
steel contains chromium, molybdenum, nickel, and carbon.
Ferritic Grades
- 409 and 430 Annealed
- Ferritic stainless steels generally have better engineering properties
than austenitic grades, but have reduced corrosion resistance, due to the
lower chromium and nickel content. Most compositions include molybdenum,
aluminum or titanium. Common ferritic grades include 18Cr-2Mo, 26Cr-1Mo,
29Cr-4Mo, and 29Cr-4Mo-2Ni.
